Rather than simply stacking new rooms above the existing bungalow, Sarah introduced a reverse-living accommodation strategy—a design move where the principal living spaces are placed on the upper level, taking advantage of better light and outlook. This meant the ground floor becomes the quieter, more private zone, housing bedrooms, utilities and ancillary spaces, while the first floor celebrates living, dining and kitchen spaces with elevated views and a strong connection to the outdoors. The result is a home that feels open and light, yet grounded and comfortable.

Throughout the design process, careful attention was paid to how the new second storey sits with the surrounding street scene and neighbours, how windows are oriented for both view and privacy, and how the structural alterations tie the old and new parts seamlessly together. The outcome is much more than an enlargement; it’s a well-resolved home with a clear hierarchy of spaces and a thoughtful flow, tailored to the client’s lifestyle and the unique characteristics of the site.
